Over the years, the Dunes has maintained its position as Myrtle Beach's Highest-Rated golf course and continues to be recognized as one of "America's Greatest 100 Courses" by many publications including Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, Golfweek, Links Magazine and many others. Hole #13, nicknamed "Waterloo", has received much attention having been chosen by Golf Digest and Sports Illustrated as one of "America's Best 18 Holes".
The course has played host to two USGA National Championships and Six Senior Tour Championships.
In December 2003, The Dunes Golf and Beach Club reopened after an extensive greens restoration project which resulted in the installation of A-1 bent greens. The project was led by Rees Jones, the prominent golf course architect of his generation, and also included minor alterations to the 1st, 8th, 13th, 16th, and 18th greens, which allow them to remain consistent with the design's original intent and handle the increased speed of the A-1bentgrass.
Golf Professional Brian Vest and his staff welcome you to The Dunes. Enjoy the day on one of America's finest tests of golf.
Dress Code:
As the Dunes Club is private, the membership expects the guests to adhere to a standard dress code. Those unable to abide by these simple rules will be asked to change or leave the property.
Men: Collared shirts are required (mock-neck shirts are acceptable). No denim of any style or color (usually indicated by rivets on the pockets or seams). Shorts are permitted so long as the are Bermuda length or just above the knee. Bathing suits or athletic shorts are not permitted. Hats are to be worn facing forward and shirts must remained tucked-in while playing.
Women: As women's fashions change seasonally, commonly accepted golf styles can be worn as long as the shorts or skirts are no shorter than 4 inches above the knee. Again, no bathing attire or halter tops allowed. Sleeveless shirts are acceptable. The Dunes Club is a non-metal spike facility. Approved spikes are available in the Golf Shop.
PACE OF PLAY:
The members at the Dunes Club regularly maintain a four-hour pace of play for 18 holes of golf. Guests of the club are expected to move along at a four hour pace. Naturally, the goal is to ensure your visit is enjoyable and you certainly should not feel rushed, but should your group fall behind the pace, our rangers will address the situation and politely ask you to catch the group ahead of you. Do not view this as a negative, it is simply a request from the staff to ensure that everyone playing, both members and guests, will enjoy their round. Guests are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled tee time to ensure proper check-in and warm-up time. Practice balls are included with the rate and are available at the practice facility prior to your round. Groups making the turn from the front nine to the back nine are asked to limit their turn time in the Waterloo Grill to 5 minutes maximum. A full lunch menu is available to guests following your morning round or prior to an afternoon round.
Locker Facilities:
Men's and Women's locker facilities are available complete with showers for those wishing to freshen up following the round. Towels are available. Guests are requested to change their shoes in the locker room prior to play as opposed to the parking lot. Spike changing and shoe shine service is available upon request.
