Growling Frog Golf Course - Yan Yean, Victoria, Australia

The Growling Frog Golf Course is a public course for all golfers. Owned and operated by the City of Whittlesea in Melbourne’s north, the Frog is a great place to spend an afternoon or even a whole day. You can have a hit of golf from dawn to dusk every day of the year, use the driving range, grab some golfing gear, or try one of the delicious meals in the Growling Frog Restaurant. Recently awarded a top 60 ranking in Golf Australia’s review of Australia’s best public golf courses for its good design and high level of presentation, the Growling Frog is set to maintain this placing for many years to come.

The first golf course in Victoria designed by golfing legend and internationally renowned golf course architect Graham Marsh, the superbly crafted 18 hole Par 72, 6185 metre layout appeals to all levels of golfers seeking a golfing experience in a true Australian environment.

Growling Frog Golf Club

The Growling Frog Golf Club conducts competitions for men each Wednesday and Saturday. A men’s pennant team also represents the Club in VGL competition.

Lady members play on Wednesday and main competitions including monthly medals and championships are played on Saturday’s.

Growling Frog Ladies Golf Club

The Growling Frog Ladies Golf Club conducts its main competitions including monthly medals and championships on Thursday’s. Competitions are also available on Saturday. The Growling Frog Ladies Golf Club has a pennant team which competes in the mid-week VWGL pennant competition.

Members of both clubs pay a small annual fee for golf league affiliation, insurance and club administration. Green fees are payable on a play basis.

All golfers with an official handicap are welcome to participate in golf competitions conducted by the Growling Frog Golf Club and the Growling Frog Ladies Golf Club.



Growling Frog Restaurant

The Growling Frog Restaurant offers modern dining in a stunning natural setting. Perched high above the golf course, the 100-seat restaurant has breathtaking views across the course, with its spectacular River Red Gums and wetlands, to the Great Dividing Range. The Restaurant is open for lunch every day of the week and for dinner Thursday to Saturday. Catering for large groups, business luncheons and private parties is a specialty.



Environment

A fierce commitment to the preservation and protection of the abundant natural wildlife during the development of the course has seen significant new wetland areas established and the number of indigenous plants increased.

Growling Grass Frog

The Growling Frog name is derived from the protected Growling Grass Frog that is native to the area, and reflects one of the many unique environmental attributes of the course.

Recycled Water System

The creation of a dedicated recycled water supply has ensured that there will be plenty of water to keep the course maintained at the highest standard throughout the year. This innovative scheme, developed by the City of Whittlesea in partnership with Yarra Valley Water, uses recycled water to deliver an environmentally sustainable water supply as well as significant cost savings.

Environmental Awards

Such has been the commitment to the environment in the development of the course that the Growling Frog has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards including Winner of the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria City Pride Environmental Awards 2004 in the category of 'Outstanding Beautification and/or Heritage Preservation', and Joint Winner of the 2003 Claude Crockford Environmental Award at the 2003 Australian Golf Course Superintendents Awards.
